Als dritter Referent betrachtete Eric Lenaers,
Director Integrated Media Strategy bei Weber
Shandwick, Verbrauchererwartungen und -ver-halten
sowie Themen wie Nachhaltigkeit und
Tierschutz. „Authentizität ist der Schlüssel“,
lautete sein Fazit. Darin waren sich die Teilneh-mer
einig und der Austausch klang beim Lunch
aus.

year. It processes 100% Belgian beef, veal and
pork. Around 200,000 packs of meat and sau-sage
products are produced in the factory eve-ry
day. They are sold in over 380 Colruyt- and
Okay-Markets. Organic beef is sold under the
„Bio-Planet“ brand.
On the second day the focus was on current
market challenges. Prof. Dr. Jeroen Dewulf
from the University of Gent reported on the
reduction of antibiotics in the Belgian meat
industry and other EU countries. „There must
be a change because it is a global risk. But it is
a solvable task,“ he said. Since 2011, antibiotic
use in Belgium has fallen by 34%. The target
by the end of 2020 is a reduction to 50%.
„Our efforts are paying off. We are getting
closer and closer to the targets we have set
ourselves. I see a great future for antibiotic-free
meat,“ added Joris Coenen.
In another entertaining but competent presen-
tation, Dr. lic. Liesbet Pluym, Coordinator and
Quality Advisor at the non-profit organisation
Belpork, also addressed this topic and presen-ted
the Certus quality system for pork. In 2014,
an online monitoring system with AB register
was installed at the pig farmers to reduce an-tibiotics.
More than 3,400 of 4,500 pig pro-ducers
participate. „The current decline in an-tibiotic
consumption across all species is being
achieved through pig farming,“ she concluded.
As third speaker, Eric Lenaers, Director Inte-grated
Media Strategy at Weber Shandwick,
looked at consumer behaviours and issues such
as sustainability and animal welfare in the ove-rall
meat complex. „Authenticity is the key,“ he
concluded. All participants agreed on this and
concluded the exchange with a joint lunch.
