of view, sunflowers are very frugal and not
susceptible to pests and diseases. SunWOWer®

Snacks and sticks
But there are also exciting cobience products
beyond the vegan/vegetarian burger rally. Crisp
Sensation, an expert in food coating systems,
enables the production of crispy, crumb-coated
snacks without frying, neither in the production
process nor in the finishing process. According
to the manufacturer, ZeroFry coatings guar-antee
the same crunchy feel and taste as pre-baked
products, but reduce fat by 50 percent
and calories. ZeroFry products can be prepared
in an oven or deep fryer.
„Snacking is an emerging global trend. There-fore,
there is an urgent need to make snack
products healthier without compromising
taste and texture. With ZeroFry, we are also
addressing the issue of acrylamide in deep-fried
products by offering safe alternatives,“ says
Christien van Beusekom, Chief Technician at

The Avita vegetable hemp sticks from Schne-
Frost are a gluten- and lactose-free frozen trend
product for vegetarian/vegan cuisine. They com-bine
vegetables such as chickpeas, corn, carrots,
parsnips and peas with hemp seeds. The seeds,
about 3 millimetres in diameter, grow on the
hemp plant and are full of ingredients such as
amino acids, vitamins (B1, B2 and E), calcium,
magnesium, potassium and iron as well as ome-ga-
3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Not included are
flavour enhancers, preservatives and colourings.
The sticks are pre-baked in rapeseed oil and can
be prepared in an oven, pan or hot-air fryer.
Combination audits according to V-Label
But now there are supposed to be readers
/ consumers who do not want to trust such
statements and promises any more. Here the
SGS Fresenius Institute is trying to step into the
breach. It is approved as a control body for the
V-label. In the name of ProVeg e. V., the inde-pendent
certification company carries out audits
for the internationally recognized test mark for
vegetarian and vegan foods.
In the future, manufacturers will benefit from
combined audits in which different standards
can be tested at just one on-site appointment.
With only one order, they can have their
products tested according to the criteria of the
European Vegetarian Union - in parallel also in
combination with other standards such as IFS.
The V-label identifies foods that have been
produced vegetarian or vegan.
The label is a trademark protected since 1996,
which is carried by the European Vegetarian
Union (EVU) and is internationally recognised.
In Germany, the label is awarded by
ProVeg e. V. after thorough examination.
