Fotos: Sandvik E s ist beeindruckend, wenn man mit einer 57-jährigen Erfahrung als Lieferant der weltweiten Fleischindustrie aufwarten kann und trotzdem ist dies kein Jahrestag, der gro-ßer Feierlichkeit bedarf. Für Sandvik ist das Jahr 2012 trotzdem ein Meilenstein, nicht was die Anwendungs-möglichkeiten selbst betrifft, sondern vielmehr hinsichtlich des Rohmaterials Stahl und des Produktes, dem Transport-band aus Stahl. Im Jahre 1862, also vor 150 Jahren, legte der schwedische Industrielle Göran Fredrik Gör-ansson den Grundstein für die Sandvik Group, wie sie heute bekannt ist, indem er den Ofen des britischen Erfinders Henry Bessemer neu gestaltete und damit die Tür zur Massenpro-duktion von Stahl öffnete. Unterschiedlichste Produkte In den frühen Jahren stellte Sandvik die unterschiedlichs-ten Produkte her, von Stahl für russische Eisenbahnen bis hin zu Rippen und Stangen für Schirme und Korsetts. Im 20. Jahrhundert wurden Edel-stähle, Hartmetallprodukte und andere fortschrittliche Erzeugnisse entwickelt. Heute steht das Unterneh-men für eine Engineering- Gruppe der Hochtechnologie und kann Vertretungen in mehr als 130 Ländern, 50.000 Beschäftigten und einen Jah-resumsatz von ca. 11 Mrd. € vorweisen. For Sand-vik though, 2012 is certainly a milestone year, not for the ap-plication itself but for the raw material, steel, and the product, the steel belt. In 1862, 150 years ago this year, Swedish industri-alist Göran Fredrik Göransson planted the seeds of what is now the Sandvik Group, rede-signing British inventor Henry Bessemer’s furnace to open the door to mass production of steel. Everything from steel In the early years, Sandvik manufactured everything from steel for Russia’s railways to ribs for umbrellas and cor-sets. The 20th century saw the introduction of stainless steel, cemented-carbide products and other advanced products. Today the company is a high-technology, engineering group with representation in mo-re than 130 countries, 50,000 employees and annual sales of around 11 billion €. The inventor of the steel conveyor belt But we need to return to the beginning of the last century, 1901 to be precise, for the next major breakthrough: the de-velopment of the world’s first steel conveyor belt, used by the company itself for trans-porting waste from a saw mill.
